Lib Dem candidate for new Cambs constituency says Tories ‘have …

The Liberal Democrats have announced their candidate for a new Cambridgeshire[1] constituency. Ian Sollom will go up against Conservative Anthony Browne in St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire at the next general election.

New parliamentary constituencies have been created[2] to rebalance the number of people each MP represents. The new seat of St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire is made up of parts of the current Huntingdon[3], South Cambridgeshire, and South East Cambridgeshire constituencies.

South Cambridgeshire MP Anthony Browne announced in March that he would fight for the new seat[4] of St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire after seeing his current constituency “cut in two”. The Liberal Democrats[5] announced on Sunday (August 27) that former South Cambridgeshire District Councillor Ian Sollom would run for the same constituency.

Mr Sollom said: “It’s a huge privilege to be standing for the Lib Dems[7] in St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire. I’m looking forward to making the case for change at the next general election.”

He said “The Conservatives[8] have all let us down”, adding “They don’t deserve another chance”.

Mr Sollom said a key issue for his campaign would be access to GPs. He said: “Anyone who has knocked on any doors in the constituency recently will know that people are crying out for better access to GPs. I want to make sure we have the resources so people can see a GP with a week, or within 24 hours in urgent cases.”
