Legendary DJ Den Siegertsz lands new job as he slams BBC
Radio legend Den Siegertsz will soon back on the airwaves with a new Sunday show – and has slammed his former bosses at BBC Radio Stoke. The much-loved presenter left the station in June after 27 years after falling victim to cuts in local radio.
But from mid-September he will host a new show from midday on Sundays on volunteer-run station Churnet Sound. Residents can listen to the Biddulph-based station online at churnetsound.co.uk[1], on smartphones and smart speakers, or on DAB radio across North Staffordshire and South Cheshire. Den’s new show is sponsored by Povey’s Oatcakes.
Now Den is glad to be ‘getting back to what I do best’ on a ‘station that actually cares about their listeners’.
He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to the airwaves at a station that actually cares about their audience. I thank everyone at Churnet Sound for giving me the opportunity and in particular Alex Povey for sponsoring the show.

“After being overlooked by my previous employer who chose freelancers to present and have me on the teamaking/phone answering duties it’s good to get back to what I do best. No obscure modern music or policy to be aware of, just top tunes and fun on the radio. I’m looking forward to chatting to the listeners, celebrity interviews and competitions – let’s do this!”
A spokesperson for Churnet Sound added: “It’s fantastic to have Den join us. We’ve all listened to him over the last 30 years at some point and we know what a wealth of knowledge he brings to the station.
“Den’s show will be full of fun and guests that listeners from across the region are used to from him. We are absolutely thrilled to have him on board. We are also eternally grateful to Alex, from Povey’s Oatcakes, who has made the show possible – one of North Staffordshire’s finest sponsoring another.”
StokeonTrentLive has approached the BBC for its response to Den’s comments. It comes as BBC Radio Stoke has been told that it can only broadcast local programmes from 6am to 2pm Monday to Friday as well as its football coverage. Other shows will be presented regionally and nationally.
