The teenager, named as Liam Jones, was driving his Ford Fiesta on the A801 when he collided with a lorry.[1]

Officers raced to the scene between the Bowhouse roundabout and Avon Gorge at around 6am on Monday, August 7.

Emergency services[2] attended but he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The person driving the lorry was uninjured but deeply distressed by the accident.

Now Liam’s grief-stricken mum Jemma Jones has paid tribute to her ‘amazing’ son, who was heading back after taking a friend home when the tragedy happened.

Speaking to the Falkirk Herald[3], Jemma said: “Liam was an amazing young man full of life and laughter, about to go into his second year of college.

“He had just celebrated a year with his beautiful girlfriend and loved his mother very much.

“They had only returned on Sunday morning from five weeks in Turkey[4].”

The special holiday also celebrated Liam’s 19th birthday before he jetted back to Scotland with his girlfriend Cheyne Whigham.

The former Falkirk[5] High School pupil was about to start his second year at college where he was studying to become a joiner.

He also worked part-time at Camelon care home Kinnaird Manor on the town’s Brown Street.

Jemma added: “Liam’s friends and the local community are in shock at this tragic accident.

“He was returning from dropping his friend off home when this happened.”

Friend Kylie Newton has set up a GoFundMe[6] page to support Jemma and help raise funds to cover Liam’s funeral costs.

On the page, she wrote: “I’m fundraising on behalf of Jemma (Liam’s Mum) to give Liam the send-off he deserves.

“Liam was a 19-year-old lad with his whole life ahead of him.

“Sadly on Monday 7th August 2023, Liam lost his life in a car accident which as you can imagine has completely shattered his mum’s life.

“Liam was her entire world, and now along with her unimaginable grief, she has to try and organise her only child’s funeral.

“I’m asking if anyone would like to contribute towards the cost of Liam’s funeral to help his mum give him the send-off he deserves

“Nothing is too small and anything would be massively appreciated by Jemma.”

The road between Bowhouse Roundabout and Avongorge was shut down for several hours so collision investigators could look into what happened at the scene.

Police[7] confirmed enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Paul Ewing said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have seen either of the vehicles to contact us.

“It is imperative we establish the full circumstances of how a young man died.

“If anyone has any information or has any dash cam footage which could assist our investigation, please pass it on.
