Hampshire County Council reopens Sway Road, Lymington, after …
Sway Road in Lymington has reopened with temporary traffic lights following a crash that caused a diesel spill.
The road was closed at both ends shortly before 9am last Tuesday after a lorry and a van collided. The road reopened on Friday afternoon.
No one was injured in the collision although the road was left closed for days while diesel was mopped up and the road surface could be assessed by the county council.
The scene of the collision in Sway RoadShortly after the crash, Sway Road resident Jill Honeybun told the A&T the collision has been “an accident waiting to happen” on a road that is “very overused”.
“This road is a real pitfall for the unwary,” she said. “There’re no signs to warn drivers about pinch points and the hedges have not been trimmed back in years.
“I’ve read that this is one of the busiest C roads in Hampshire but there are heavy trucks using this road regularly that are banned from going down Lyndhurst High Street.”
She added: “With the new developments planned for Hordle, and other works for Gordleton Industrial Estate in the pipeline, the traffic and HGVs out there will only get worse.
“These roads can’t cope with the volume of traffic as it is.”
Before Sway Road was reopened under temporary traffic light controls, a county council spokesperson said the authority would complete a “full assessment” on the road’s surface.
