Gloucester city centre road to close for 10 days near major car parks
A busy road in Gloucester city centre[1] that is well-travelled by shoppers heading out onto Westgate Street will be closed for the next 10 days while works are carried out. Ladybellegate Street is shut to motorists from today (Monday August 7) to Thursday August 17.
Works to a gas main on the road which connects Commercial Road to Longsmith Street and the two car parks in that area, mean that motorists[2] looking to park in the city centre will have to follow a diversion to access the Blackfriars and Longsmith car parks. Use of Ladybellegate Street is restricted to parking access during this 10-day period.
Access to Ladybellegate Street and the nearby car parks in Gloucester[3] can be gained via the A4301, exiting onto Westgate Street while Wales & West carry out the works. Pedestrians heading through to the city centre will still be able to use the pavement while the gas works are taking place.
Diversions for bus services are also in place for the next 10 days. Stagecoach West said: “We have been told that Ladybellegate Street will be closed on the dates specified above to allow for essential gas works and as a result, Services 11 and 353 will need to divert as follows:-
“Services 11 & 353 to Gloucester Transport Hub will serve the bus stop at St Nicholas Church then turn right into Upper Quay Street as normal. However, they will then bear right at Bearland into Quay Street instead of left towards Longsmith Street.
“At the end of the road they will turn left onto The Quay and follow the road around to the left into Commercial Road. They will re-join the normal route as they pass the junction of Ladybellegate Street towards Kimbrose Triangle.
“Service 353 to Innsworth and Sandhurst will continue along Commercial Road instead of turning right into Ladybellegate Street. They will follow the road around to the right and will re-join the normal route as they pass the junction of Quay Street towards Westgate Island.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, albeit out of our control.”
