Fleet of 999 vehicles rush to scene after Merc crashes into wall

A car ploughed into a garden wall on Wednesday afternoon prompting a huge emergency service response.

Police, fire crews and paramedics, were called to Tithe Barn Road in the Hardwick[1] area of Stockton[2] after a white Mercedes ploughed through a wall. A cordon was erected and a patient was treated at the scene.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed: "We received a call at 2.30pm this afternoon (Wednesday 23 August) to reports of a road traffic incident on Tithe Barn Road in Stockton. We dispatched one rapid response paramedic who treated and discharged one patient on-scene."

Residents described their shock after the crash. One concerned woman - who has lived on the estate for 56 years - said the area is getting worse.

She said: “I heard it, it really screeched. I was waiting for an explosion. I thought a little kiddie had been knocked over, that’s why I came out.

“I just saw the car had hit through a home. Course it was a shock. I saw no one was hurt and went back home. It’s got a lot worse round here.”

Pictures from the scene show severe damage to the vehicle which is inside a police cordon. Officers are guarding the scene.

Cleveland Fire Bridge also attended and sent crews from Billingham[4] and Stockton, they said: "We were called at 2.28pm to an incident on Tithe Barn Road in Hardwick, Stockton. RTC involving a car crashing into a property. Two fire engines in attendance from Billingham and Stockton. We left the scene at 3.21pm."

Residents told Teesside Live of their shock with one woman saying the car narrowly avoided her and her child, she said: "The white car was parked across the road. There were people arguing and then it happened. Someone got in the car, spun it round, and turned into the house. It was brutal. It was just all over. Then police turned up and the fire engine turned up.

“I’ve lived here a couple of years and it’s normally quiet. The crash was loud, I was about to cross over the road when it happened, and it just missed me and my little girl, who’s four. It also just missed a woman with a pram earlier when it was turning around. I’m still in shock to be honest - it’s just not something you see everyday”.

Another added: “I just came in when the police were turning up. There were two vans and then the fire engines came later on. four 4x4 police were here, the BMWs, it looked like armed response but I wasn’t sure. My initially reaction was shock.”
