Edinburgh road closures and changes to public transport for major …
An annual cycling[1] event is heading to the capital, with hundreds of athletes expected to descend on the city.
The Men’s Elite Road Race will kick off on August 6 at 9.30, with several Edinburgh roads to be closed off as the cyclists make their way to Glasgow. The Queensferry Crossing[2] will also be closed for a short time as the race makes its way across the Firth of Forth[3].
Several bus routes within the city will be diverted, while Traffic Scotland have warned those travelling by rail to expect busy services. The Men’s Elite Road Race passes through towns in Fife, Falkirk, Stirling and East Dunbartonshire before circling Glasgow’s city centre 10 times.

Road Closures
- From 9am the M90 Northbound will be closed from M9 Junction 1A for around an hour.
- The A90 Northbound from the Barnton Junction will be closed from around 9.30am until all participants are over the Queensferry Crossing.
- From 6.30pm on August 5 until noon on August 6, Queens Drive, Horse Wynd and Dukes Walk will be closed.
- From 11.59pm on August 5 until 1.45pm on August 6, Canongate and New Street will be closed.
- From 11.59pm until 11.15 on August 6 the High Street and Lawnmarket will be closed.
- From 8am until 9.45am on August 6, Abbeyhill and Calton Hill will be closed.
- Between 9am and 9.45 on August 6, George IV Bridge, Lawnmarket, Bank Street, North Bank Street, The Mound, Hanover Street, Queen Street Gardens East, Heriot Row, Howe Street, South-East Circus Place and North-West Circus Place will be closed.
- Between 9.10am until 9.45 on August 6, Kerr Street, Deenhaugh Street, Raeburn Place, Comely Bank Road and Craigleith Road will be closed.
- Between 9.15am and 9.50am on August 6, Queensferry Road and Hillhouse Road will be closed.

Queensferry Crossing
- Part of the route, the Queensferry Crossing will be closed northbound for a short duration in the morning – estimated to be between 9.45am and 10.10am.
- Traffic Scotland recommends avoiding travelling in the area by car around these times if you can.

Buses
- From start of service until 1.45pm the service 35 – Between Chambers Street and Easter Road, buses will divert via South Bridge, North Bridge, Waterloo Place and Regent Road in both directions.
- Between 9am until 10.30am the Skylink 200 – Between Groathill Road North and Drum Brae Drive, buses will divert via Telford Road, Crewe Road South, Orchard Brae, Queensferry Road, Queensferry Terrace, Ravelston Dykes, Murrayfield Road, Corstorphine Road and Clermiston Road in both directions.

Between 9am until 10.30am service 47 – Between Queensferry Road and Davidson’s Mains, buses will divert via Orchard Brae, Crewe Road South and Ferry Road in both directions. Service 47 will terminate at Cramond and will be unable to serve Barnton and Cammo during this time.
- From 9am until 11.30am on August 6 the service 43 – Between Queensferry Road (Stewart’s Melville) and The Loan (Queensferry), buses will divert via Queensferry Terrace, Ravelston Dykes, Murrayfield Road, Corstorphine Road, St. Johns Road, Glasgow Road, the A8, Newbridge Roundabout, the A89, (B800) New Liston Road, Station Road and (B907) Kirkliston Road in both directions.

Trains
- Traffic Scotland said: “Spectators are likely to use train stations along the route particularly Edinburgh, Falkirk and Glasgow so they may be busier than usual. Rail services will also be busier than usual with those planning to attend the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.”
