Drug driving arrest made after police and firefighters attend crash on …

Three fire engines rushed to the motorway heading eastbound between junctions nine for Winwick and 10 for Croft at around 5.15pm.

This came following reports of a collision between a car and a HGV.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check the temperature of the vehicles to ensure there was no chance of a fire starting.

One casualty was helped at the scene, while paramedics and police also attended.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 5.15pm on Tuesday, August 1, officers responded to reports of a collision the M62 eastbound between junctions nine and 10.

“The incident involved a white Volkswagen Golf that had collided with a white Scania HGV.

“The driver of the Volkswagen, a 33-year-old man from Rainford, Merseyside, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

“He was taken to Warrington Hospital for treatment to his eye and head.

“The driver of the HGV, a 61-year-old man, was uninjured.”
