A woman has been left with serious injuries after a runaway truck crashed through the front of a shop on Saturday morning.

Hertfordshire Police has since arrested a man on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by driving without due care, following the incident just after 10am in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.

Emergency services assisted a woman who was left trapped by a recovery truck that had collided into the front of Cook in North Street. 

The woman was subsequently taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, BBC[2] reports.

East England Ambulance Service said that their response included one ambulance, two Hazardous Area Response Team Vehicles, an ambulance officer vehicle and an Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

In a statement, Hertfordshire Police said: 'We received a report shortly after 10am that a truck had collided with the front of a shop in North Street, Bishop’s Stortford.

'Officers attended immediately, along with ambulance, fire and air ambulance services. The road has been closed.

'There was one female casualty who was present in the shop at the time. She has been taken to hospital and is currently in a stable condition.

'A male has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by driving without due care.'

The police added that the road was expected to be closed for some time and advised people to avoid the area.
