Driver left seriously injured after lorry overturns on M25

A driver has been left seriously injured after a lorry overturned on the M25[1] on Wednesday morning (August 9). A large emergency service response was called to the scene at Junction 2 for Darenth Interchange at 10.46am following reports of a crash involving a lorry.

The vehicle had overturned on the vital motorway near the anti-clockwise exit slip road. Following the crash, the lorry had also spilled fuel on the carriageway.

A closure was soon put in place for the exit slip road while emergency services took to the scene. Delays to travel and lengthy traffic soon ensued as a result, with motorists facing hefty wait times throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Kent Police was called at 10.46am on Wednesday 9 August 2023 to a report of a collision involving a lorry near the Darenth Interchange. Officers are at the scene along with other emergency services and the driver has been taken to a London hospital to be treated for serious injuries.”

The closure of the exit slip road currently remains in place, and delays to travel are persisting while emergency services remain at the scene. National Highways has estimated the incident to be cleared and normal traffic conditions to resume at around 6pm this evening.
