Dramatic scenes near M5 as plane ‘crash lands’ on busy road
A busy road leading to the M5 was closed for several hours after a plane ‘crash landed’[1]. There were dramatic scenes as the light aircraft came to a rest on a central crash barrier in front of stunned motorists.
Police, firefighters and medics were all sent to the A40 Golden Valley Bypass in Gloucestershire, on Thursday evening (August 10). The incident is believed to have happened near Gloucestershire Airport, at around 6pm.
Luckily, no-one was injured and no other vehicles were involved, GloucestershireLive[2] reports. The road was closed in both directions from A41 (Elmbridge Court Roundabout) to M5 J11, for several hours, reopening at around 8pm.
A Gloucestershire Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called shortly before 6pm today (August 10) with a report a light aircraft had landed on the A40 Golden Valley. No one was injured and it is understood that no other vehicles were involved.”
A post from National Highways on X, formerly known as Twitter, said: “The A40 has reopened in both directions between the A417 and M5 J11 near Cheltenham following the earlier aviation incident. Traffic is now flowing freely.”
