Dramatic M5 police chase ends with car crashing into Exeter house and seven cars

Two men have been arrested following a dramatic police chase in Exeter last night (August 13) which led to a vehicle crashing into a house and seven vehicles. Reports of a large police presence came flooding from residents in the Wilton Way area after officers and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) descended upon the city.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said officers were called at 4.45pm to a report of a vehicle being driven dangerously on the A30 near Cheriton Bishop, heading in the direction of Exeter. The vehicle joined the M5 and eventually ended up at Wilton Way.

Police found the vehicle which then reversed and crashed into two police cars, five parked cars and a house. A man from Launceston, aged 31, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession with intent to supply drugs, possession of criminal property, driving whilst unfit through drugs, failing to stop, dangerous driving and assaulting an emergency worker causing actual bodily harm.

Another man from Launceston, aged 40, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession of drugs with intent to supply and possession of criminal property. Both men remain in police custody at this time.

In a full statement, a police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 4.45pm on Sunday August 13 to a report of a vehicle being driven dangerously on the A30 near Cheriton Bishop, heading in the direction of Exeter.

"Officers and NPAS located the vehicle as it joined the M5 and attempts were made to stop it, however these were stood down for safety reasons. The vehicle left the motorway and continued into Wilton Way in Exeter where officers located it.

"The vehicle then reversed and collided with two police cars, five parked cars and a house.

"A 31-year-old man from Launceston was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession with intent to supply drugs, possession of criminal property, driving whilst unfit through drugs, failing to stop, dangerous driving and assaulting an emergency worker causing actual bodily harm.

"A 40- year-old man from Launceston was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, possession of drugs with intent to supply and possession of criminal property. Both men remain in police custody at this time."
