Tributes have been paid following the death of a young Co Tyrone[1] man in his 20s near Toomebridge on Thursday morning.
The man has been named locally as 26-year-old Ciaran Hurl from the Moortown area.
The young man died after the motorcycle he was driving was involved in a road crash with a lorry near the Co Antrim[2] town early on Wednesday.
Ciaran is believed to have been travelling to work in Toome on his motorcycle when the collision occurred.
A former youth team player with the St Malachy’s club in Moortown, the club said that a light in the community had gone out following Ciaran’s death.
“A light in our community has gone out this morning, with news of the tragic death of Ciaran Hurl, a former youth player,” the club said.
“Ciaran is the eldest son of Enda and Shauna Hurl and brother of Michelle, Aoibheann and Dara.
“Their loss is immeasurable and as a club and community we need to wrap them in love and support over the days and months ahead.
“We offer them our deepest sympathy. All club activities have been cancelled as a mark of respect. May Ciaran Rest in Peace.”
Local councillor for the area Niall McAleer said his thoughts and prayers were with the Hurl family following the devastating news.
“There is a great sense of shock in Moortown today at the tragic loss of Ciaran Hurl at such a young age, which has left the community in mourning,” Cllr McAleer said.
“Ciaran’s family and friends are in everyone’s thoughts and prayers, and I offer them my sincere condolences during this difficult time.”
The Blackpark Road in Toomebridge was closed for a number of hours on Thursday before the PSNI[4] sadly confirmed the death of a young man following the crash.
The death brings to 46 the number of people who have lost their lives on roads in Northern Ireland so far this year.
