CAR CRASHES INTO DITCH AFTER SMASHING INTO ROYAL …

A car ended up in a ditch at the side of the road following a collision with a Royal Mail lorry on the outskirts of Ryde this morning (Thursday).

The crash on Beaper Shute, near the junction with Harding Shute, occurred shortly before 06:20.

Island Echo understands a red VW Polo was attempting an overtake of the lorry whilst travelling towards Sandown but oncoming traffic forced the driver to take evasive action, leading to the collision.

It’s said the Polo went into the rear of the lorry before leaving the carriageway and coming to a rest in the ditch.

Emergency services have not been called to the scene and the road remains fully open as the vehicles have very quickly been moved off the main Ryde to Sandown road.

The VW Polo – which has sustained significant front end damage – is now hidden out of site in a nearby woodyard having been moved by a telehandler. The Royal Mail lorry has also been moved to the private property as insurance details are exchanged.
