Buildings left gutted after fire at popular boutique hotel in Essex
Two outbuildings at the Orsett Hall hotel have been severely damaged following a fire on Monday morning (July 31). The incident happened at the boutique country hotel, on Prince Charles Avenue, Grays, with firefighters called to the scene called at 5am.
Crews from Grays, Orsett, and Basildon attended the scene where a building used as a laundry room was alight when they arrived. The fire was reportedly spreading to an adjoining building.
More crews were requested because of a limited water supply, and an Aerial Ladder Platform from Chelmsford, as well as crews from Basildon and Corringham, also came to tackle the spreading blaze.
The fire was extinguished and roof tiles were removed via the Aerial Ladder Platform to monitor hotspots. The laundry room was destroyed and the adjoining building was badly damaged by fire and smoke.
An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out. Orsett Hall has confirmed they are still open and operating as normal.

Station Manager Scott Fretton, Incident Commander, said: “Initial crews acted quickly to establish a water supply which was challenging at first. Crews worked really hard to contain the fire and prevent it spreading further into other outbuildings.”
An Orsett Hall spokesperson said: “I confirm we did have an external outbuilding fire, which housed our laundry facilities this morning at Orsett Hall. The fire brigade is investigating.
“Orsett Hall is not affected and is open and operating as normal.”
