British Transport Police update after injured woman found on train …
A woman who was found injured on the train tracks in Ely[1] yesterday (August 16) was taken to hospital. British Transport Police were called to a section of the line just after 6pm, following reports of a person on the tracks.
Once officers got there they found a woman with injuries. Medics helped her and she was taken away for treatment.
BTP has now released a statement on her condition. A spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line in Ely[2] at 6.05pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended and a woman was taken to hospital for treatment. She has since been discharged.”
As a result of the incident, trains from Ely to Thetford did not operate[4] between 6.05pm and 7.44pm. Disruption was expected to continue until 9pm.
The routes impacted were Greater Anglia services between Cambridge/Stansted Airport[5] and Norwich, and East Midlands services between Liverpool Lime Street and Norwich.
A National Rail spokesperson said yesterday (August 16): “Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Ely and Thetford, all lines are blocked. Disruption is expected until further notice.”
Inrix, the traffic data company, said during the incident: “Services are at a stand on Greater Anglia between Ely and Thetford, due to emergency services dealing with an incident.”
