Body found after police force entry into home in Somerset town

A body has been found at a home in Wellington[1], Somerset, after officers had to break into a property in the town. An eyewitness reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area at the time.

Emergency services were called to Mantle Street in the town on Tuesday afternoon (August 22) to a concern for welfare incident. Upon arrival, officers forced entry to a property and found the body of a man.

Avon and Somerset Police[2] said in a statement he has not yet been formally identified. His death is not being treated as suspicious but police officers are continuing their enquiries and a report to the coroner is being prepared.

An eyewitness told SomersetLive that a police cordon had been set up around a property, with multiple police vehicles in the area.

Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: “Police were called just before 4.45pm Tuesday 22 August to a concern for welfare incident in Mantle Street, Wellington.

“Sadly, after officers forced entry to a property, they found the body of a man. He has not yet been formally identified. The death is not being treated as suspicious but officers continue to make enquiries for a report to the coroner.”
