Biker ‘seriously injured’ in Royal Stoke after A500 crash with lorry
A biker was taken to hospital after being ‘seriously injured’ in a crash with a lorry on the A500. Emergency services descended on the D-road near Clayton following the collision[1] between a motorcycle and a truck.
The HGV driver was not hurt in the smash, which happened at around 10.30am today (August 9).
Motorists were caught in long tailbacks as police and paramedics dealt with the aftermath of the incident.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] spokesman said: “We were called at 10.30am to reports of an RTC on the A500 near Clayton, Newcastle-under-Lyme. One ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a motorbike and a lorry had been involved in a collision.
“The motorcyclist, a man, was treated by ambulance staff for serious injuries before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the lorry was not injured.”
A Staffordshire Police[3] spokesman said: “We were called at around 10am this morning following reports of a road traffic collision on the A500 Hanchurch Island.
“A lorry and a motorbike had collided causing the road to be partially blocked. The driver of the motorbike broke his shoulder and was taken to hospital. The road was re-opened at approximately 11.30am.”
