Ayrshire roadworks: A76 Auchinleck towards Mauchline

Traffic management is set to be in place along the A76, just north of Auchinleck, from September 4 until November 11.

Network Rail says that workers are taking on £1.4m improvement works on a railway bridge at Knagshill Farm.

To allow engineers to complete the work in the safest and most efficient way, traffic management will be in place for the duration of the programme.

A lane closure will be in operation along a section of the A76 between the Templeton Roundabout and the C50 road towards Ochiltree at the start and end of the programme, although an exact timescale of this has not been revealed.

This will be facilitated by temporary traffic lights.

The same stretch of the A76 will also have a 30mph speed limit in place in between the lane closure works.

Network Rail says: “There will be a lane closure at the start and end of the project on a section of the A76, as this road provides access into the area where we are working and we’ll need to mobilise plant, machinery, materials and set up the site compound at the start of the works.

“This includes the materials to build the new steel bridge, as it’s being constructed in the compound area close to the existing bridge and will then be craned into place.

“Then, at the end of the works, there will be a lane closure again to allow us to demobilise from site with all our equipment etc.

“The 30mph limit will be in place to allow the team to access to/from the site compound during the works.”

They added that, once this work completes, it will extend the bridge’s lifespan for up to 20 years, as the structure will be stronger and better protected against the elements.
