Armed police have swarmed a residential Thornaby street following an incident.

Officers were spotted on Shetland Avenue[1] on Friday afternoon, around 5.30pm, responding to an incident. Eyewitnesses have reported that armed officers "surrounded a house" - however, this has not been confirmed by authorities.

Images taken from the scene show at least three police cars[2] parked on the road, with two officers captured standing outside of a house. Cleveland Police has yet to confirm the nature of this incident.

Another image shows a van parked at the side of the road, with an officer standing beside it, and a number of bystanders further down the street.

Teesside Live has contacted Cleveland Police[4] for further information about the incident.
