Anger over roadworks as National Grid work to repair ‘fault’
Roadworks in Longford are causing anger as National Grid work to repair an electrical fault. National Grid said the fault was first reported on Wednesday, August 16 and while supplies were quickly restored, works are ongoing to trace the fault and carry out a permanent repair.
Engineers are carrying out works on Windmill Road in Longford[1]. A total of 17 customers in CV6 7BA have been left without power which the company says is for ‘safety reasons.’
It currently remains uncertain how many days the roadworks will be in place on the busy road, however, they are expected to be lifted on Monday or Tuesday (August 21 and 22).
Drivers have reported disruption nearby as barriers have been put up with temporary traffic lights also in place on Windmill Road. Vehicles are said to be getting ‘stuck’ with horns ‘constantly beeping.’
A spokesman for National Grid said: “We had a fault on part of our network on Windmill Road overnight on August 16 and 17. We restored all supplies to customers but we are now working to trace the fault and carry out a permanent repair. We have had to put barriers in place and turn off supplies to 17 customers for safety reasons while we carry out this work.
“Unfortunately, until we have found the fault and know what we are dealing with we cannot say exactly how long the roadworks will be in place, although our expectation is that they will be lifted early next week. We apologise to customers and road users for the inconvenience and would like to assure everyone that we will work as quickly as we safely can.”
