All the Great North Run road closures affecting Newcastle, Gateshead and South Shields
Preparations are all in place for the return of the Great North Run this September as the city awaits the arrival of around 60,000 participants taking part in the iconic half-marathon, not to mention their family and friends who will be supporting the runners along the13.2 route.
The big day for what will be the 42nd outing of the Great North Run[1] is Sunday, September 10 and the buzz in already building in the city. Once again it will be all eyes on the North East as the world-famous run from Newcastle city centre[2] to South Shields[3] plays out in the national spotlight.
Those taking part will be busy already on planning out their day and, for many, the all-important details of how to get to and from the start and finish lines are paramount. An event as large as the Great North Run requires a lot of road closures of course and not just of those used by the route. Several adjacent roads will be out of bounds to cars too for certain times during the build-up to the run, the event itself and then for a period afterwards.
