Air ambulance lands after crash between pedestrian and motorbike

An air ambulance landed after a person was hit by a motorbike in a "serious" crash.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to Orrell Road, near the junction of Braw Street in Wigan[1], at around 2pm on Tuesday, August 1, following reports of an incident. Once officers arrived at the scene they found a pedestrian has been hit by a motorbike on the road.

The North West Ambulance Service and a North West Air Ambulance were called to the scene and a casualty was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The motorbike rider stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

GMP's Serious Collisions Unit arrived at the scene and put a cordon in place on the road so they could investigate. The road is closed in both directions between Fleet Street and The Copse.

The AA Traffic Map shows heavy congestion on Orrell Road, which is also backing onto the M58 at Orrell Intarchange. It's understood more information on this incident will be released by GMP tomorrow.
