A12 shut as air ambulance lands after serious crash – live updates

A multi-vehicle A12 collision has left a woman and child seriously injured this morning (August 7). The incident happened between Junction 28 (near Colchester) and Junction 27 (near Lexden) where emergency services were called at 9.26am.

Essex Police, Essex County Fire and Rescue, East of England Ambulance Service, and Essex and Herts Ambulance Service attended the scene. The crash involved three cars with two people reportedly trapped in their vehicle.

A woman and child suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to Addensbrookes Hospital. The A12 were closed in both directions as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Heavy traffic queues and long delays were reported as a result. Road diversions were implemented while the closure was in place. All traffic was released at around 1.20pm. Traffic returned to normal by 2.45pm

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson: “Two ambulances, a Hazardous Area Response Team vehicle, two ambulance officer vehicles and two Essex and Herts Air Ambulances were called to the A12 near Colchester this morning. One woman and a child, both with serious injuries, were transported to Addenbrookes Hospital by air ambulance.”
