A van crashed into a wall in Westwood Street, Accrington

Onlookers gawped in shock after a white van crashed through a wall close to the junction of Westwood Street and Argyle Street in the town at around lunch time on Monday (August 21).

The van destroyed the masonry, leaving bricks and stones all over the road, and also damaged a car which was on the other side of the wall.

Police confirmed that the incident was a ‘minor injury’ only and did not provide more details of the crash.

Images taken at the scene show the van’s front end as it smashed into the stone wall, as well as damage done to a blue car on the other side.

It wasn’t the first incident of this nature to occur on Monday, as earlier in the day, a lorry had become stuck under a railway bridge next to Church and Oswaldtwistle train station, causing traffic chaos and resulting in trains being cancelled.

And later, a car became wedged between two businesses in Darwen[3] after the driver suffered a ‘medical episode’ at the wheel.

The incident happened earlier on Monday afternoon on Railway Road where the driver had driven into the front of two properties.

The estate car came to rest in front of Scent Station and Scarlet Hair.

Emergency services were at the scene and nobody was seriously injured.
