Woman found critical dies as police refer case to watchdog over …

A woman has tragically died after she was found seriously injured at a beauty spot. Staffordshire Police received reports of a woman in distress in an area off Camp Road in Cannock Chase[1] at 25.6pm yesterday, July 16.

The woman was given advanced life support by paramedics[2] and rushed to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton[3]. However she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious and her death has been referred to the coroner. But Staffordshire Police[4] has also referred the incident to the police watchdog after cops had recent contact with the woman.

A spokesperson for the police said: “We were called to an area off Camp Road, Cannock, at 2.56pm on Sunday, following reports of a woman in distress. She was found with serious injuries at the scene and was taken to hospital by paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service. Sadly, she was pronounced dead a short time later.

“Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner. A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to recent police contact with the woman.”
