Volvo crashes into Birmingham flats

A driver was lucky to escape without injury after a car crashed into a block of flats in Birmingham early this morning. The Volvo V40 rammed into a bricked wall causing a hole beyond pavement railings.

The single vehicle collision happened at the junction of Lifford Road and Pershore Road, in Cotteridge[1], just after 6am today, Friday, July 28. Witnesses said the car airbags had deployed.

Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] assessed the driver. But as he was not injured he was discharged at the scene.

Structural engineers have been assessing damage to the apartments. West Midlands Police[4] were in attendance, while the paths were cordoned off. Traffic continued to flow as normal.

An ambulance service spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: “We were called to reports of an RTC at the junction of Lifford Road and Pershore Road in Kings Norton, Birmingham just after 6am.

“An ambulance and paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a car had crashed into a building. The driver, a man, was assessed by ambulance staff but was not injured and so was discharged at the scene.”
