Tributes paid to beloved head teacher in this week’s death notices
Family members have paid tribute to an “adventurous and good-humoured” dad, father-in-law and grandfather in this week’s Essex Chronicle death notices and funeral announcements.
Everard (Gordon) Gordon-Hancock, 92, passed away in his sleep at Elmcroft Nursing Home on May 27. He leaves behind his Robert, daughter-in-law Liz and three grandchildren.

Passed away peacefully at home on 19th June 2023, aged 94 years. Beloved Wife of the late Colin, much loved Mum to Jane, Mother-in-law to David and proud Gran to Jon, Andrew and Gemma. A gentle lady who was loved and will be missed by so many. Funeral Service at Chelmsford Crematorium on Monday 24th July at 2.30pm. Sadly passed away on the 3rd June. Much loved father to Elizabeth, Kola, Yemi and Deji and a good friend to many. Margaret Louisa (Maggie) MOOD (Noble)[6]

(Noble) (Maggie) Margaret Mood (Maggie), nee Noble, was born in 1930, a loving daughter of Salvation Army officers Harry and Hilda Noble (nee Bright) and sister to John. She attended St Hild’s College in Durham from 1949 to 50, before marrying her ‘man from the North,’ dear Robert A. C. Mood (Bob). An amateur actor, she became a greatly appreciated teacher and headteacher (Whitfield and Chatton) in Northumberland and a lecturer at St. Mary’s in Fenham and North Tyneside College.
Maggie was the beloved mother of Jonathan and Elizabeth and much loved mother-in-law of Pauline. She died peacefully on 23rd June. A consummate raconteur, Maggie was always ready for a joke and a laugh and was the life and soul of any occasion. Her funeral is on 11th July at 1.45pm at Northumberland Crematorium, Bockenfield. No flowers. A few labelled native wildflower seeds if wished. Donations box available for SANE.
‘Pat’ of Maldon, formerly of Kelvedon Hatch. Peacefully at Windle Court Care Home, South Woodham Ferrers on 22nd June 2023. Aged 84 years. Special thanks to James and team at the Queen Victoria public house, Maldon and staff at Windle Court. Much loved Cousin and Uncle. Will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Our Lovely Mum, Doreen, passed away on 13 June, in Broomfield Hospital, after a short illness. Our hearts are truly broken but we know that she is on her way to find her Sweetheart, our dear Dad, George. Love and miss you forever, Mum.
