An Edinburgh pedestrian has died after being struck by a car[1] on a busy capital road on Tuesday morning.
The 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene[2] after the driver of a silver Toyota Yaris collided into him at 7am on Calder Road.
The driver, who has been identified as a male, was uninjured in the incident. The road was closed[3] until just after 12pm as officers carried out an investigation into how the tragedy unfolded.
A large police presence was spotted in the area as commuters made their way to work, causing large scale diversions as emergency services raced[5] to the scene.
Officers are now asking any witnesses[6] to come forward as they try to gain further details in the coming days.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 21-year-old male pedestrian has died after being struck by a car on Calder Road in Edinburgh. The incident happened around 7am on Tuesday, 4 July. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The male driver of the silver Toyota Auris involved in the collision was uninjured. The road was closed until around 12.10pm to allow for investigation at the scene."
Sergeant Barry Sommerville added: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We are working to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have information which has not yet been passed to police to get in touch. We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area.
“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 0497 of 4 July, 2023."
