Suspect named after mum killed in crash with bin lorry

A man has been charged after a woman died in a crash involving a bin lorry.

Kevin Marsh, 43, of Redgate Drive, in St Helens[1], has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving whilst uninsured. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court[2] today (July 15).

The fatal crash occurred at the junction of Broad Oak Road and Delta Road in St Helens[3] at 7am on July 5. It involved a white Ford Fiesta and a bin lorry.

Mum-of-four Michelle Atherton[5], 47, was treated at the scene for a serious head injury and was taken to hospital where she died a short time later.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson[6] from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with Michelle’s family and they are still being supported by specially trained officers. I would also like to thank the local community for their help to date with this investigation.

“Although a man has been charged in connection with this incident, we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”
