Steven and Claudia’s wedding day saved by surprised leisure …
Leisure centre staff saw their shifts take an unusual turn – when they answered an urgent plea to be witnesses at a wedding.
Groom Steven Utley rushed into Redcar[1] and Cleveland Leisure and Community Heart at 10.45am on Tuesday, July 4, frantically searching for two witnesses for his 11am wedding to bride Claudia at the neighbouring Redcar Civic Centre.
With Steven’s two pre-agreed witnesses nowhere to be seen, sales and front of house manager Elizabeth Spencer and clean team member Carrie Evans stepped in to ensure the wedding could go ahead.
Elizabeth said: “It was a real privilege to be asked to be witnesses at Steven and Claudia’s wedding and lovely to be part of such an important moment in their lives.
“It wasn’t what we were expecting when we turned up for work, but at Everyone Active, we want to be there for the communities we serve.
“We were only too happy to play our part in this special day and we wish Steven and Claudia all the very best for the future.”
Everyone Active, which runs Redcar and Cleveland Leisure and Community Heart on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Council, even donated complimentary one-month memberships to the couple as a wedding present.
Everyone Active runs four other sites on behalf of Redcar and Cleveland Council[3], which are Eston[4] Leisure Centre, Saltburn[5] Leisure Centre, Loftus[6] Leisure Centre and Guisborough[7] Swim and Fitness Centre.
Couples looking for professional and dedicated people to help organise their wedding or civil partnership ceremony can look at the council’s registrars team.
