Somerset woman and child airlifted to hospital after HGV crash
A woman and child from Somerset were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a major collision[1] across the border in Devon. The crash, which involved a HGV and a yellow Peugeot 107 Urban, happened near South Molton yesterday afternoon (Thursday, July 13).
Police officers were called to the A361 at around 2.50pm following the collision. The road remained closed until around 10pm, DevonLive reports[2].
Two people sustained serious injuries in the crash. A woman in her 50s from Somerset was airlifted to Derriford Hospital, in Plymouth, while the child was flown to Bristol Hospital.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Witnesses are being sought to a collision in South Molton which left two people seriously injured. The occupants of the car, a woman in her 50s and a young child, suffered serious injuries.
“The woman, from Somerset, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance and the child was flown to Bristol Hospital. The road was closed until around 10pm for officers to conduct a full investigation of the scene and police enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of the incident.
“Officers would like to thank members of the public who stopped to assist at the scene. They would like to hear from any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police and anyone with relevant dashcam footage.”
