Moment binman is knocked down by joyriders on 'stolen' motorbike before thugs give workers the middle finger and speed off
- Richard Legg, 19, suffered bruising to his shoulder and ribs in the hit-and-run
Shocking footage shows the moment a binman is knocked down by two thugs on a motorbike in a hit and run crash.
Richard Legg, 19, was crossing a road in Poole during his rounds on Monday, when a black scooter came out of nowhere.
The rider veered into the wrong side of Blandford Road in Upton to overtake a white van, that had stopped to let Mr Legg cross, before ploughing into him.
The refuse worker was thrown to the ground in the collision on Monday morning.
This follows a similar incident in Slough in 2018, where a binman was knocked down by a driver who had failed to clear frost from their vehicle's windscreen[2].
Video footage shows the pillion passenger on motorbike involved in a hit-and-run incident giving the bin lorry the middle finger as they speed past
Richard Legg, 19, said the bike 'came out of nowhere' as other drivers were letting him cross the road during his rounds
After coming off the bike, the two yobs picked it up and sped off without checking to see if Mr Legg was okay.
'I had just put my last bin on the lorry and then put it back when it happened,' Mr Legg said.
'The white van on my right let me cross the road and the car coming the other way did the same.
'As I went to cross the road the bike came out of nowhere then went straight into me.'
He added: 'They didn't say anything to me and just left.'
After soldiering through the remainder of his shift, Mr Legg later went to hospital with bruising to his shoulder and ribs.
He said: 'Since the accident I've had pain in my shoulder and ribs and had to go back to hospital to check nothing is broken.
'The hospital said my shoulder is just bruised and they wouldn't X-ray my ribs because they can't really do anything if they are broken.'

Police have launched an investigation into the hit and run crash. It is suspected the bike may have been stolen as the number plates had been removed.
As the riders overtook the bin lorry, the video shows the pillion passenger give the bin lorry driver the middle finger.
A spokesman for Dorset Council's waste services said: 'One of our loaders was a victim of a hit and run incident involving a scooter carrying two people while he was emptying bins.
'Fortunately our employee only suffered minor injuries but the outcome could have been much worse.
'The behaviour of these riders is dangerous and irresponsible and shows no regard for our loaders, who are simply doing their job serving our community.
'If anyone has any information relating to this incident please contact Dorset Police.'
A Dorset Police spokesman said: 'We received a report at 2.35pm on Monday of a collision involving a moped and a pedestrian in Blandford Road in Upton.
'It was reported that the incident had occurred at around 10.25am that morning and the moped, which had a rider and pillion passenger on board, did not stop at the scene.
'Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.'
