Road shut for hours as HGV crashes onto its side
Drivers in and around a seaside town were told to avoid a residential area after a HGV tipped on its side. A section of the A548 - where Barkby Avenue meets Prestatyn[1] Road and Marine Road East in Prestatyn, Denbighshire[2] - was shut in both directions for hours following the incident, which happened on Monday morning.
An image shared with North Wales Live showed the overturned HGV crashed on its side on one side of the road, close to Pontins holiday park junction. The incident caused heavy traffic to build up in and around the site.
Traffic logs indicated that the apparent one-vehicle crash closed the road at around midday. It reopened shortly before 6pm on Monday evening.
North Wales Police[4] urged motorists to find an alternative route around the crash site as they helped aid the recovery operation of the large vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported seeing staff conduct accident investigation work at the scene for most of the afternoon and into the early evening as the vehicle was being recovered.
A spokesperson for the force confirmed that officers attended reports of the collision shortly before 10.30am on Monday morning.
The Welsh Ambulance Service was also asked to comment.
