Rescue mission launched to help six ‘distressed’ paddleboarders

A rescue mission was launched after six paddleboarders got into difficulties near South Gare.

RNLI Redcar launched the Atlantic 85 lifeboat[1] on Saturday afternoon, at 4.21pm, after a number of paddleboarders got into a struggle off the coast. A spokesperson confirmed to Teesside Live that the individuals were picked up by another boat and ferried back to shore by the RNLI crew.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the boat leaving and returning to the station[2] with the "distressed" individuals, with many taking the opportunity to praise the rescue efforts as "total teamwork."

RNLI Redcar stated on Facebook[4]: "4.21pm - Launch Atlantic to assist a number of paddleboarders in difficulties near to South Gare. Six were reported as rescued and all returned safely to Redcar[5] RNLI lifeboat station."
