Plymouth Magistrates’ Court list: Man masturbates in a public place …
Six days a week magistrates and District Judges sit in judgement of people brought before them for a variety of offences. The cases can be recent - particularly for those arrested and charged to appear at court from police custody - or quite old. This could be because cases are 'historical' such as when adult victims come forward to make complaints about incidents of alleged sexual abuse when they were children, or because some cases take time to be investigated and wend their way through the criminal justice system before they end up with a charge and a court appearance.
Regardless, they all have opportunity to have their case heard, with a defence solicitor and prosecutor from the Crown Prosecution Service invariably appearing in court to state the case for and against them. After that it is for the lay magistrates - volunteers who are guided by legally qualified court clerks - and experienced and qualified district judges to be the judge of their guilt or innocence (although no-one is found innocent in a court in England and Wales, they are only found 'not-guilty').
Those below are the ones who have appeared at Plymouth magistrates' court and been found guilty or have pleaded guilty to the offences they have been charged with. Many more contest the charge or the venue and their cases are sent to the crown court. Many are also not from Plymouth and the offences have not taken place in the city and so PlymouthLive have - for reasons of quantity and time - not highlighted those cases.
It can be an eclectic mix and while those who are convicted can be legally deemed as criminals, it may be for readers' to form their own opinions as to whether such a label is fair and just.
Although, performing an act of self-love while in public view may be considered not the done thing, however you want to slice it.
