Planned road closures in Gloucestershire this month
Metz Way in Gloucester is among those roads in Gloucestershire which roads bosses have said will be shut for maintenance this month. The closure of the city centre road was among those Gloucestershire County Council announced would have closures or restrictions this month.
You can see more about the planned works below. Works are also due to take place in Cheltenham[1], Stroud, Tewkesbury and the Cotswolds.
The county council announces road closures[2] in the county every week. Below are all the roads and footpaths across the county which are closed for a variety of reasons.
This can be for carriageway resurfacing, installing utilities or for another valid cause. Please see this week’s road closures in the list below.
Gloucester
Metz Way
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of the A4302 Metz Way from its junction with Bruton Way (Asda) to its junction with Eastern Avenue for a distance of about 1160 metres. The reason for the closure is for a street lighting check to be carried out.
The road is expected to be closed between the hours of 10pm on Wednesday July 5 to 4am on Thursday July 6 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative route – as signed on site. Emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Kidnappers Lane, Leckhampton
Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part of Kidnappers Lane from its junction with Farm Lane to the entrance to the Newland Homes site, for a total distance of about 550 metres. The road is to be closed for tree cutting works.
The road is expected to be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Tuesday July 18 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian access to premises on or next to the road and emergency access will be maintained.

There will be no waiting of vehicles throughout the duration of the intended works. The reason for the closures and restrictions is for carriageway resurfacing works.
The roads are expected to be closed and restricted during various times on a rolling programme, starting Monday July 17 where the presence of approved signage will indicate whether the closures and restrictions are in force. Further advance warnings of dates/times will be displayed on site prior to the closures and restrictions taking effect.
This order can permit the closure and restriction of the roads in any order, or simultaneously as required. It is anticipated all works will be completed by December 29, 2023.

Duke Street
Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part Duke Street from its junction with Hewlett Road to its junction with Princes Street, for a total distance of about 10 metres.
The reason for the closure is for Severn Trent Water pipe renewal works. The road is expected to be closed from Wednesday July 19 until Friday July 21 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route: As signed on site. Pedestrian access to premises on or next to the road and emergency access will be maintained.
St Anne’s Terrace and Duke Street
Notice is hereby given that Gloucestershire County Council has made an order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 prohibiting any vehicle from proceeding along the length of road described in the schedule below other than in the direction specified.

Public footpath YZCH96, in Benhall and The Reddings ward
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of public footpath YZCH96 from its junction with North Road East to its junction with The Reddings for a distance of about 160 metres. The reason for the closure is for electrical cable installation works.
The Road is expected to be closed from 8am on Monday July 3 until 4pm on Friday July 21.
Alternative route – as signed. Emergency access will be maintained. Pedestrian access will NOT be maintained due to safety reasons.
Tewkesbury
Bushcombe Lane, Woodmancote
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of Bushcombe Lane from its junction with Station Road to outside the property known as Longwood House for a total distance of about 1.9 kilometres (1.18 miles). The reason for the closure is for gas replacement works.
The road is expected to be closed from 8am on July 3 2023 until 6pm on September 8, 2023 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – not applicable as no alternative route. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.
Rising Sun Lane, Cleeve Hill, Woodmancote
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of Rising Sun Lane, Cleeve Hill, from its junction with Cleeve Hill to its junction with Spring Lane for a total distance of about 90 metres. The reason for the closure is for Severn Trent works.
The road is expected to be closed from 8am on Wednesday July 5 until 4pm on Friday July 7 only or until the works have been completed.

B4077 Alstone Fields, Alstone, in Dumbleton, Teddington and Alstone
Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of the B4077 Alstone Fields, Alstone from outside the property known as Alstone Fields Farm to a point 50 metres East on the B4077 for a total distance of about 50 metres. The reason for the closure is for Severn Trent to install a new water connection.
The road is expected to be closed from 8am on Monday July 3 until 6pm on Wednesday July 5 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.
Bozard Lane, Stoke Orchard
Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part of Bozard Lane, 50 metres either side of Railway Level Crossing, for a distance of about 100 metres.
The reason for the closure is to allow for annual barrier maintenance and adjustments to equipment.The road is expected to be closed from 11pm on Sunday July 16 until 5am Monday July 17 only, or until the works have been completed, whichever is the later.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Emergency access will be maintained. Pedestrian access will not be maintained due to nature of works.
Gotherington Lane, Bishop’s Cleeve
Gloucestershire County Council will under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 temporarily close part of Gotherington Lane from its junction with Sunrise Avenue to outside the property known as “Homelands Farm”, for a total distance of about 280 metres.
The reason for the closure is for developer road improvement works. The road is expected to be closed from 8am on Monday July 17 until 5pm on Sunday August 13 only or until the works have been completed, whichever is later.

Beckford Road, Teddington
Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part of Beckford Road to Peartree Cottage from its junction with Acer Gardens to a point 150m West for a total distance of about 150 metres.
The reason for the closure is for a new water connection.
The road is expected to be closed from 8am on Monday July 17 until 6pm on Wednesday July 19 only or until the works have been completed.

Willow Bank Road, Alderton
Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part Willow Bank Road from its junction with B4077 to its junction with Fletcher Close for a distance of about 200 metres. The reason for the closure is for road construction works.
The road is expected to be closed from 8am Monday July 17 until 5pm Wednesday July 21 only or until the works have been completed, whichever is the later.
Alternative route – as signed on site. Emergency and Pedestrian access will NOT be maintained due to works taking place across the full Carriageway width with no footway currently present.
Brockworth Road, Brockworth and Churchdown
Gloucestershire County Council will temporarily close part of Brockworth Road from its junction with Perrybrook Road to outside the property known as Dean Farm for a distance of about 600 metres.
The reason for the closure is for bearing replacement works to the bridge. The road is expected to be closed between 8am Friday July 21 to 6am Thursday August 24 only or until the works have been completed, whichever is the later.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Emergency and Pedestrian access will NOT be maintained due to safety reasons.
Forest of Dean
Kempley Road, Oxenhall
Gloucestershire County Council will temporarily close part of Kempley Road, from outside the property known as “Woodside” to outside the property known as “Pound Farm” for a distance of about 1,000 metres.
The reason for the closure is to replace a BT pole in the roadside verge. The road is expected to be closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Tuesday July 18 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – as signed on site. Emergency and pedestrian access to adjacent properties will be maintained.
Redmarley D’Abitot
Gloucestershire County Council will temporarily close part of the road from “the Causeway” to the junction with “the Lottery”, outside the property known as “Coniston Cottage”, for a distance of about 20 metres.
The reason for the closure is for a boundary box renewal. The road is expected to be closed from Tuesday July 18 until Thursday July 20 only or until the works have been completed.
Alternative Route – As signed on site. Emergency access and pedestrian access will be maintained.
Stroud
A46 Cheltenham Road, Painswick
Gloucestershire County Council will close part of the A46 Cheltenham Road from its junction with Pullends Road to its junction with Green Acres for a distance of about 50 metres.
The reason for the closure is for a new water connection.
The road is expected to be closed between 8am and 6pm on Sunday July 23 only or until the works have been completed.
