Person dies after being hit by train near Great Chesterford

A person has died after being hit by a train this morning[1]. British Transport Police was called at 9.07am, to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Great Chesterford.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers attended alongside colleagues from ambulance service but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not believed to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident caused lines to close between Broxbourne and Cambridge[2] to be closed until around 11am. Disruption to services[3] lasted until 2pm.

National Rail said trains are now running as normal. Greater Anglia and CrossCountry were impacted, and they allowed tickets to be used for alternative routes and services. They also operated rail replacement buses.
