Pensioner taken to hospital after fire breaks out at retirement complex
A pensioner was taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a retirement complex. Three fire engines were sent to Twr Llewelyn, shortly after 7am.
The fire service said the blaze took hold on a balcony which was destroyed, while there was further fire damage to the living room. The flat was totally smoke-logged.
The fire was caused by "smoking materials". A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service[1] spokesperson said: "Called to fire on balcony at flat at Twr Llewelyn in Conwy[2] at 7.04am, three appliances.
"Male casualty in his 70s treated by ambulance for smoke inhalation and transferred to hospital. Cause of fire due to smoking materials – 100% damage to balcony, 20% to living room, 100% smoke damage to whole flat."
They added: "Crews used one hose reel jet, two sets of breathing apparatus and thermal imaging camera." The fire was out by 8.10am. Fire service smoking safety advice can be found here.[4]
