Pedestrian left with substantial injuries after horror crash

A pedestrian has been left with serious injuries after a late-night crash in Skelton.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the town after a white BMW 3 series M Sport collided with a pedestrian[1] near the Byland Road junction with Skelton High Street and Low Stanghow Road. The 24-year-old man was left with a broken shoulder, several breaks to his right arm, substantial facial injuries, and potentially a broken back.

He was taken to James Cook University Hospital[2] where he remains in the intensive care unit for his injuries. The BMW did not remain at the scene following the incident on Friday evening and was later located by police.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed it sent one ambulance crew, a clinical team leader and the Medicar to the scene while also requesting support from air ambulance. Teesside Live visited the scene of the incident on Saturday morning, where the road was fully re-opened.

The force said it is now appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to get in touch. A Cleveland Police[4] spokesperson said: "Police are seeking witness and dash cam footage after a 24-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured on Skelton[5] High Street, near to the junction with Byland Road last night, Friday, June 30.
