Oxford: Construction on major city road planned next month

Work will start on the A4144 Woodstock Road between the Wolvercote roundabout and St Anne’s College, which is north of St Giles, between August 10-25.

To minimise disruption, the work will be taking place between 8pm and 5am and a two-way temporary traffic[1] lights will be in operation over a short section to avoid closing the road.

County[3] councillor and cabinet member for highways management Andrew Gant said: “This is a key road into Oxford and so it is important that this vital work is carried out to improve the carriageway.

“Because of the closure of the Botley Road due to Network Rail’s redevelopment of Oxford Station, this work is taking place overnight and during the school holidays to reduce the impact on the rest of the network.”

The side roads will also be closed if they fall within the traffic lights while the work is taking place.

Resurfacing work will take place on Oxford’s Woodstock Road from 10-25 August.

Bus services are expected to continue as normal along the Woodstock Road but some stops will be suspended if they fall within the extent of the traffic management.

There will be no traffic management outside of the working hours and at weekends.

Marshalls will be in place to help manage the flow of vehicles and to assist motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and residents.
