Newtown Road drainage works finish a week early in Carlisle

Improvement works started on Monday, July 17 with a planned completion date of Friday, July 28.

After bringing in additional resources the team has been able to complete the works a week early and the road was opened at 4pm on Friday, July 21.

Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s executive portfolio holder for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: “This is fantastic news, completing the drainage works on Newtown Road a week ahead of schedule is a significant accomplishment.

“Finishing a project ahead of time not only reflects the efficiency and dedication of the Highways team involved but also brings numerous benefits to the community.

“Early completion means less disruption to the residents and businesses in the area, as they can resume their normal activities sooner than expected.

“I would like to thank the residents and business[2] owners for their patience and invaluable support throughout these improvements.

“Without their backing, achieving the early completion of this project would not have been possible.

“I want to especially thank them for their exceptional support during the final 24 hours, which played a significant role in our success.”
