Murder investigation after 18-year-old dies in hospital car park
A murder investigation has been launched into the death of an 18-year-old male following an incident in Cornwall. Police[1] were called just after midnight on Sunday to reports of an altercation at a property on Wallace Street in Bodmin. One person was seriously injured and a number of others fled the site, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
A 17-year-old local youth has been arrested on suspicion of murder with an 18-year-old arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. The teenager was taken to Bodmin Hospital by a member of the public but died of his injuries in the hospital’s car park.
Formal identification has yet to have taken place, but next of kin have been informed, police said. Detective Inspector Ilona Rosson said a scene guard remains in the car park but the hospital is open as usual.
Det Insp Rosson said: “We are appealing for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Wallace Street, Berrycombe Road, and the A389 between Cardell Road and Bodmin Hospital between 10pm Saturday July 22 and 1.30am on Sunday July 23″.
She appealed for any CCTV, doorbell camera and dashcam footage from those areas at the time. “We appreciate that this type of incident will come as a shock to the local community.
“We ask that people refrain from speculating on social media and if you know anything that could assist with the investigation, that you contact the police immediately.”
