Miracle as Evri lorry driver walks away unharmed after A38 crash on …

Despite the scale of destruction, nobody was injured in the dramatic collision which happened on the A38 westbound carriageway in the early hours

Dramatic photographs show the wreckage of a crash on the A38 near Plymouth, which incredibly everyone involved in managed to escape without injury.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service shared photos of the destruction the crash – involving an Evri lorry and a Highways Agency vehicle – caused on the A38 heading towards Plymouth.

The crash happened just after midnight and the road remains closed this morning[1]. The incident happened between Heathfield and Ashburton on the westbound carriageway. Despite the scale of destruction, nobody was injured in the crash. Diversions are in place this morning.

Drivers are being advise to take the A382 to Newton Abbot; at Newton Abbot take the A381 to Coldharbour; at Coldharbour turn right onto the A385; at Shinners Bridge take the third exit off the roundabout onto the A384; re-join the A38 at Buckfastleigh.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue (Ashburton Fire Station) said: “At around 12:30 this morning we attended along with our colleagues from Buckfastleigh Fire Station, Bovey Tracey Fire Station, and the environment protection vehicle from Newton Abbot Fire Station an RTC involving an LGV and Highways Agency lorry working on the verge cutting grass on the A38 westbound carriage near Parker’s farm.

“On arrival, amazingly all persons from both vehicles were out and clear of the vehicles unharmed. Crews made both vehicles safe by isolating the batteries and containing the spread of oil and fuel, then handed over the incident to the police and recovery company. Morning rush hour traffic may expect long delays and possible diversion.”

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We received reports of a collision involving a lorry on the southbound carriageway of the A38 at Ashburton at around 12.30am today [Friday 7 July]. The vehicle ended up on its side. No reported injuries. Recovery of the vehicle is taking place and the scene and road closure are now in the hands of the council’s highways team.”
