Middlesbrough man who died in A66 crash named

A man who died following a crash on the A66[1] has been named as Daniel Stephens.

Cumbria Police were called to a collision on the A66, at Brough in Cumbria, shortly after 6.10am on Friday after receiving reports of a ‘serious road traffic collision’. Officers advised motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid heavy congestion at the scene while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Later that day, the force said that a Middlesbrough man had died as a result of the crash and it had launched an investigation into the fatal incident. Now, Cumbria Police has confirmed that 35-year-old Daniel Stephens tragically died at the scene.

Cumbria Police said on Friday that Mr Stephens’ family had been informed of the devastating news. Officers are hoping to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have any information that can assist them in their investigation.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “A man who died following a collision on the A66, near Brough, at around 6.10am on Friday 7 July has been identified. Daniel Stephens, aged 35 from Middlesbrough[3], sadly died at the scene.
