Met Office UK weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds
A warning for heavy rain and strong winds is in place for part of England today, the Met Office has announced.
Parts of Britain are seeing some miserable and unsettled weather off the back of a warm spell which has seen the mercury nudge towards the 30C mark in recent weeks.[1]
While hot weather looks likely for the second part of the month, Brits will need to grin and bear some unsettled weather first - with a nine-hour alert for rain and wind being issued for parts of East Anglia.[2]
The weather warning for the east comes following hours of downpours in the west, with Yeovil, Minehead, Taunton and other parts of Somerset braced for thunderstorms which are forecast tonight.[4]
The current weather warning which is in place for Norwich, Great Yarmouth and other coastal destinations in East Anglia will be in place from 9pm today until 6am tomorrow (July 5).
The Met Office states: "There is a small chance that heavy rain and strong winds will cause some flooding and disruption on Tuesday night."
What to expect...
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
- There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
- There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected
- There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close

UK long-range forecast
July 8-17
The start of the period will most likely see unsettled conditions across the country. A band of heavy rain is moving erratically east across into western Britain. Expect very warm and humid conditions with scattering of showers, potentially developing into severe thunderstorms ahead. Rain from the west likely to merge with these storms later. Temperatures will be very warm/hot for most in England, eastern Wales and parts of Scotland; however, becoming cooler from the west. Later in the period, conditions likely to remain generally unsettled with most places seeing some rain or heavy showers at times (with a risk of thunder) but also some drier interludes with spells of sunshine. Overall, temperatures will be around, or a little-below average for July for most, perhaps warmer for a few locally.
July 18-Aug 1
For the second half of July until early August, conditions will likely trend from generally unsettled to more settled, though still with scope for a few showers or thunderstorms. Some hot spells are still possible, though in general temperatures should be around to rather above normal.
