Met Office issues 15-hour weather warning – full list of locations …
The Met Office has issued a 15-hour weather warning for parts of the West Midlands and shared exactly where it’ll hit.[1] The weather alert takes effect at 9am on Saturday July 15.
The alert expires at midnight on Saturday. “An unseasonably windy day is likely on Saturday,” the Met Office says in the yellow weather warning. The alert adds: “Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely, some short term loss of power and other services is possible and it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.”
The warning continues saying: “Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely. Some damage to trees or temporary structures such as marquees, tents & inflatables, could occur.” In the weather alert, the warning continues: “A deep area of low pressure will affect parts of the UK on Saturday with some very strong gusts of wind likely to its south.
“A blustery and showery day (with some thunder) will see winds gust widely to 40 mph, and perhaps up to 55 mph during the daytime in association with showers. The strongest gusts are likely to occur mainly, but by no means exclusively, over hills and along coasts particularly in east and southeast England during the afternoon.
“Some minor damage and travel disruption is likely. Winds will moderate later in the evening and overnight.” In the West Midlands, Worcester is affected by the yellow weather warning, as is Malvern, Evesham and Alcester. Other locations impacted include Wellesbourne and parts of Warwickshire, including Rugby.
In an alert on Twitter, West Midlands Roads wrote: “The Met Office has issued a weather warning for #Wind for part of the #WestMidlands conurbation, mainly #Coventry The warning will be valid for this TODAY. Take care if planning on making a journey.” A separate yellow warning is in effect in the north of the country too.
The weather alert threatens to wreak havoc on T20 Finals’ Day at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The final of the cricket competition takes place on Saturday night, after two semi-finals earlier in the day.
