Man still in hospital fighting for life days on from tragic crash
A man remains in a critical condition in hospital five days on from a tragic Guisborough[1] crash.
The incident took place on Friday evening, on Middlesbrough[2] Road near The Traingle and Co-op petrol station, when a BMW 5-series was involved in a single-vehicle collision. Tragically, 37-year-old dad Kellam Hodgson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other man involved in the crash, aged 35, was rushed to the James Cook University Hospital[3] in a critical condition, where he remained fighting for his life on Monday. The force has now confirmed that the man remains in a critical condition.
Flowers have since been left at the scene of the fatal crash, alongside a number of heartfelt notes and bottles of Stella Artois.
On one of the flower bouquets, a heartfelt note said: “Myself, my girls, and all your family are going to miss that big bright smile and those one-liners. You were one of life’s good guys, I will look after your family as you would of mine.” Another said he was “gone too soon” and was “forever in our hearts.”

In a statement released by police at the weekend, Kellam’s grieving family called him a “much-loved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend” and asked for privacy at this time.
The road was closed off in both directions by police, with the ambulance service requesting air ambulance support and sending two ambulance crews, a clinical team leader, a duty officer, and the medicar to the scene.
On Sunday, a force spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage after a man sadly died following a collision in Guisborough. Officers were called to a single-vehicle collision involving a BMW 5-series at around 8.10pm on Friday 30th June 2023 on Middlesbrough[5] Road, Guisborough.
“Sadly, 37-year-old Kellam Hodgson was pronounced dead at the scene. Kellam’s grieving family have today paid tribute to him and has asked for privacy during this extremely difficult time. His family said: ‘Kellam was a much-loved son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.’
“Another man, aged 35, was taken to James Cook University Hospital[6] where he remains in a critical condition. Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have dash cam footage of the incident to get in touch with the police.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police[7] Specialist Operations Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number CVP-23-128209. Footage can be uploaded here[8].”
