Man in hospital after being stabbed on train at Cheshire railway station

A man stabbed on a train near Hartford Station on Friday (July 30) is recovering in hospital. A suspect is also in custody after the incident that saw roads closed by police and the air ambulance scrambled.

The 50-year-old victim was travelling between Liverpool and Birmingham and police say the incident happened at around 4pm causing hours of rail disruption.

The air ambulance was also scrambled, landing on a bridge over the railway, as well as road closures on Chester[1] Road as emergency services descended on the station.

The victim was taken to hospital by air ambulance. A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, BirminghamLive reports[3].

A spokesperson from BTP said: “Shortly after 4pm Friday, July 28, British Transport Police were called to Hartford Station following a report of a man being stabbed on a train from Liverpool to Birmingham. A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and is in custody.

“The Northwest Air Ambulance attended and took the victim, a man in his 50s, to hospital. Fortunately, his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and he is in a stable condition.

“Enquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses who haven’t already spoken to police can contact BTP by texting 61016 quoting reference 408 of July 28."
