Man in 80s fighting for life days on from crossroads crash

A man in his 80s remains in a critical condition in hospital after a three-vehicle collision[1] in Coalville. Witnesses are now being sought after the incident left one of Coalville’s main routes closed for several hours in four directions.

The collision occurred at around 10.30am on Monday morning (July 10) at the Broom Leys crossroads in Coalville[2] at the junction with Stephenson Road. The incident involved a silver Ford transit van, a black Ford Ecosport and a white Vauxhall Astra.

In a statement, Leicestershire Police[3] confirmed the driver of the Ecosport, a man in his 80s, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. He remains in a critical condition in hospital as of Wednesday (July 12).

No other injuries were reported in the collision. The severity of the incident closed off the crossroads in four directions for more than seven hours while emergency services worked at the scene and investigations were carried out.

Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made[5] in connection with the incident, but an appeal for witnesses has now been launched. Anyone with dashcam footage is urged to speak with officers as soon as possible.

Police Constable Madeleine Hayes, from Leicestershire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A thorough investigation will be carried out to establish exactly what occurred. To assist us, we are asking for anyone who saw the collision or the vehicles prior to the incident, or was driving in the area and thinks they may have captured something on their dash cam to make contact.”

Anyone with information should call Leicestershire Police[6] on 101, quoting reference number 23*425228. Alternatively, report information on the force’s website.
